KIM Tae-yun’s court drama New Trial has sold to several international distributors during the European Film Market (EFM). The deals were handled by Korean distributor United Pictures in Berlin. Starring KANG Ha-neul and JUNG Woo, the film was bought by New Select for Japan, Lemon Tree for China, Deltamac for Hong Kong and One Demand Korea (ODK) for North America.
Based on a real story, the film deals with a young man who has been released from jail, after serving time for murder, and the pro bono lawyer who sets out to clear his name. Young star KANG has recently featured in DONGJU; The Portrait of A Poet (2016) and Twenty (2015) while JUNG was recently seen in the hit The Himalayas (2015).
United Pictures is also handling other titles in Berlin, such as the thriller Ordinary Person, the sports drama SPLIT and the melodrama One Day. Starring SON Hyun-ju, Ordinary Person is about a detective tracking down a serial killer. YOO Ji-tae leads SPLIT as a has-been bowler who teams up with a young autistic bowler. One Day, with CHUN Woo-hee and KIM Nam-gil, is the latest work from director LEE Yoon-ki.
