Following his studies in Electronic Engineering at the Anyang Science University, SHIN Jung-geun, born in 1966, debuted as a stage actor in 1990 and received his first prominent credit in PARK Chan-wook’s <Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance> (2002). The tenacious actor has remained prolific ever since, typically stacking up a few diverse credits on major Korean films every year. SHIN has also become active on the small screen in recent years. Often playing detectives, fathers or middle-aged characters with troubled pasts, SHIN has appeared in a number of thrillers, such as <Running Turtle> (2009) and <Howling> (2012). His craggy looks have also made him popular in period fare, such as <The King and the Clown> (2005) and <Masquerade> (2012). The multi-talented performer has also demonstrated his funny bone in <Lifting King Kong> (2009) and <The Grand Heist> (2012). In 2011, SHIN was awarded the Popularity Award at the 33rd Golden Cinematography Awards. He has since been taking on more prominent roles, starring in the 2013 summer hit <Secretly Greatly> and <A Hard Day> (2013), presented as part of Cannes’ Midnight Screening, as well as in the 2014 swashbuckling blockbuster <The Pirates>. He has gained wider recognition thanks to recurring roles in hit period drama series <Mr. Sunshine> (2018) and fantasy series <Hotel del Luna> (2019).
