GANG Mal-geum, born in 1979, was a normal office worker in Busan when one day, as she was approaching the thirties in 2007, she decided to drop everything to pursue an acting career. She moved to Seoul and joined the theater company Wagon Stage, known for its puppetry shows as well as for producing farcical and commedia dell’arte plays. After making her debut in <B-Boy Pinocchio> interpreting the title character, she has been playing in various short movies starting 2009, notably starring in <From The End> (2013) and <Daydream> (2017). With her lead performance in the short <The Monologue> (2018), she won a Special Mention of the Jury at the Mise-en-scene Short Film Festival and Best Actor at the Shin Film Art Film Festival. Next for GANG was a supporting role in <Idol> (2018), from<HAN Gong-ju> director LEE Su-jin. Director KIM Cho-hui took notice of GANG’s acting in <The Monologue>, and eventually cast her in the lead role of <Lucky Chan-sil> (2019), winner of a Directors’ Guild of Korea (DGK) Award, the CGV Movie Collage Award and the KBS Independent Film Award at the Busan International Film Festival.
